Repairing Yellow Circles
Tuesday, April 26, 2011, 10:28 AM - Landscaping

After the snow (finally!) disappeared, you may have been a little dismayed by the number of yellow circles your puppy left behind in your backyard.

A healthy treatment of lime and grass seed are the perfect remedy. First, use lime to neutralize the damage, then apply grass seed (or sod). When applying grass seed or sod, be sure to keep the area damp until the grass successfully establishes roots (usually a two-week commitment).

Crabgrass Prevention is ... Now
Sunday, April 24, 2011, 10:05 AM - Landscaping

Now is the time to prevent crabgrass! Use a granular product in a fertilizer spreader once in the spring (before your lilacs begin to bloom) and again in the fall.

If you don't have a spreader, Lawn King rents them out for $5 / day.

Bunnies: the other 364 days
Saturday, April 23, 2011, 10:56 AM - Landscaping

Ahh... What a cutie!

For the other 364 days a year when bunnies are NOT welcome in your yard and garden (and Fido isn't doing the trick), we recommend "Repels All" by Bonide.

Apply to your garden every 2 months, or more often if it's an especially rainy season.

For more information, visit BonideProducts.com or stop in and see us.

Got Boxelder Bugs?
Friday, April 22, 2011, 04:45 PM - Landscaping

Boxelder bugs seem to be worse than ever this spring.

Instead of soapy water (which is harmful to your soil's ecosystem), we recommend using Bonide Eight Insect Control -it comes in several varieties (indoor, outdoor, spray, dust, etc.). For more information, visit BonideProducts.com or stop in and see us.

Pruning 101
Thursday, May 28, 2009, 11:03 PM - Landscaping

Do you have perennials that look like the plant on the left? Pruning will help promote healthy growth and clear away unslightly dead branches.

To safely prune, use clean, sharp pruning shears. Approximately 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch above new growth, cut the branch at a 45-degree angle.
